As a Christian, I would much rather deal with a rough-around-the-edges man with a filthy mouth than a polished, effeminate man with a clean one. By a LONG mile! Yet much of the modern church seems to place greater emphasis on outward respectability than on genuine masculinity, courage, and strength of character. Why is that? What scares them about that kind of man? Of course, Christian men ought to discipline their tongues and speak with wisdom. I'm not disputing that. But when we become more concerned with the words coming out of a man's mouth (or the memes he posts, or the jokes he laughs at) than with the masculine character of the man speaking them, we've confused the appearance of godliness with its substance. A clean mouth is no substitute for a courageous heart.
